Vietnamese video content watching behavior

Video is now a daily habit for urban Vietnamese, averaging 1.6 hours a day on smartphones above all. YouTube, Facebook and TikTok dominate reach, while traditional TV survives mainly among viewers in their 40s. Beyond local content, Chinese titles now outrank Korean and Hollywood, and taste splits by origin — comedy for Vietnamese, romance for Korean and Chinese, action for Hollywood.

YouTube (92%), Facebook (82%) and TikTok (74%) lead, while traditional TV reaches only 21% of viewers.

Traditional TV splits sharply by age: 35% among those aged 40–49 versus just 9% in their 20s.

Smartphone dominates at 93%, ahead of TV (49%) and laptop (44%), the latter favored by 20s (68%).

Vietnamese spend 1.6 hours a day watching video, rising to 1.9 hours among those aged 20–29.

Chinese content (54%) edges Korean (51%) and Hollywood (33%), while Japanese content skews young at 37%.

Comedy leads for Vietnamese content, romance for Korean and Chinese, action for Hollywood, animation distinguishes Japanese.
